I am a Maximum PC magazine subscribers, one of the best computer magazines and one of the few magazines still surviving as a print magazine (you can still read it online).
Every year Maximum PC have their “Dream Machine” of the year which is a custom computer that they build using the best of the best hardware, and they are expensive ($17,000 last year). So this time they presented 3 different Dream Machines at the following price ranges (2,600SR, 5,400SR and 14,000SR). The specs on these machines are pretty good, even the cheapest model. Although we know how hard it is to find AMD products in the Intel-dominated Saudi market.

As for where to buy the hardware in Saudi Arabia? Most of the standard hardware can be found at regular computer stores but if you want the high end video cards, power supplies and cases then you need to visit a store such as Softland/Binaries/Techno Roof. The other solution is to import from the United States using any of the mail forwarding services listed here.

You have done good in giving out info on AMD and ATi based systems.
Six months back, i had to argue with a computer salesman to give a quote on the specs based on AMD. He gave a blank face on hearing the “only AMD inside” preference.
4 months later, he comes back to me and expresses a lot of delight about how AMD is a good bet though its not popular as it should be in the KSA.

I can safely say that AMD’s share in the Saudi Arabia market is %1.

Khaled, I am glad to see this site. I just moved to the Jeddah area and I am looking for computer parts stores and local computer users groups. If anyone can direct me, please email. Thanks!

This is reference to Terry’s message.
Terry,
On Khalid bin Waleed street, there is a store called System Computers (some what opposite to nasa-HTC store, which is located on the right side of the road). A very crowded small store on regular hours because they sell at very attractive prices.
The first time i got there, i noticed the computer stores in that area are all empty! Just this one (System Computer) bustling with activity.
Just like in a crowded fish market – just push you way through to the counter and ask for your item. Else no one can serve you there. Its too crowded. First hand experience mate. lol
Lesson learned, to get the purchase done faster, follow the steps below:
)
1. call the number: (2) 6524848, listen for the sales extension.
2. Ask for the item (exact product name and model as applicable)is in stock, availability and price
3. Introduce yourself, fix the time you would visit them, confirm you are coming for the purchase, ask the item(s) to be made ready – not waiting due to the crowd.
4. On reaching the store counter – ask for the item(s), check the package (if its what you are looking for, damage etc) and make your pay
5. Vola, its done – if there is problem inform and bring it back immediately! (rare case though, just in case of your luck!

Credit goes to you Khaled for mentioning AMD!
Not the least, I appreciate the initiative you take to mention about the copyright violations committed when a publisher does not mention their source of article or photos. Kudos on being a activist on intellectual property.

What a wonderful write-up! No idea how you came up with this article..it’d take me days. Well worth it though, I’d suspect. Have you considered selling ads on your blog?
